Pitch Perfect 2 is going to be released in a few weeks and the anticipation is building for this girl power movie. The first movie is about facing fear, failure, rejection and redemption. The main character, Beca, a college student who is less than enthusiastic about being in school makes a deal with her father that she will give her education one more try and join a club. If after one year she still doesn’t like college her father agrees to pay for her to move to L.A. and pursue a career in the music industry.
Beca discovers a passion for signing a cappella and joins an all-girl group with a leader determined to redeem herself at this year’s national competition. There are many interesting characters in the group who all come together because of their love of singing. The road to the national competition has many speed bumps along the way and the discoveries the young women make together help them achieve triumph in their final performance.
Sneak Peak of Pitch Perfect 2
Four Life Lessons Every Girl Should Know
Even after the most humiliating situation it is possible to come out on top: The a cappella group’s performance at nationals included one girl vomiting on stage. Many people would quit after enduring public humiliation on national television. However, in this case it only added fuel to determination and the will to succeed. Turning a perceived negative event into a positive one is not only courageous but it will give strength to face any situation and know that everything will be o.k.
Trying something totally new can lead to unexpected rewards: When the outcome is greater than the risk (in this case an opportunity to pursue a music career in L.A.) trying something new is worth the effort. The unexpected benefit for the introverted Beca is that she learns the value of friendships. When we let our guard down and allow ourselves to be vulnerable, the real reward comes in the gift of having others cheer us on.
Competition can bring out the best in you: When faced with a challenge, some people will take up the fight and others flea from adversity. In the movie, an all boy ensemble taunts the Bella’s and makes them feel less than worthy of winning. Adversity only gave way to a new girlpower and brought out the best in each singer. Looking for the silver lining will encourage girls not to give up but to push forward with persistence and perseverance carrying them through to the end.
Sometimes the journey is more important than the destination: When we put all of our focus on the end result we miss the opportunity to incrementally gain momentum and may even prevent ourselves from achieving greatness. Opening ourselves up to the whispers we hear in our inner voice will reinforce strength. Learning how to pause and listen to messages along the way creates the ultimate strength to make it over the finish line.
