Taylor Swift seems to be one of those celebrities that we can’t help but love. Perhaps one reason America adores her so much is that despite her incredible success at such a young age, she seems surprisingly down-to-earth.
Anyone that watched the American Country Music Awards on Sunday April 19th, 2015 probably admires Taylor Swift even more than they did before. She was presented with the Milestone Award. Instead of being introduced by another celebrity, which is the norm, Taylor was introduced by another very special person… her mom!
“I’ve watched this milestone artist from the time she was a tangled-hair little girl on our farm, full of imagination and creativity, until right now as she prepares for her next world tour. And ever since then, her favorite thing in the world to do is to write a song, tell a story, play guitar or piano, and I’ve seen those things carry her through every emotion, every experience in her life, good or bad,” shared Andrea Swift about her daughter at the ACM Awards.
She continued: “For many years, I was her constant companion. And I witnessed a young girl with very few friends become a young woman with many, learning to stand up for herself and the things she believes in, being brave enough to explore her musical curiosity, having a voice against those who hate, and giving of herself to those in need.”
This moment of the award show was especially emotional considering Taylor Swift recently disclosed that her mother had been diagnosed with cancer. We’re willing to bet there weren’t many dry eyes in the room after that speech.
We admire Taylor for having such a great relationship with her mother. What makes it even more amazing is that there are so many young girls who view Taylor as a role model. Instead of being disrespectful and condescending toward her mom like some teenagers and young adults can be, Taylor has always modeled a close, respectful, and loving relationship with her mom.
In fact, one of the songs on Taylor’s 2008 album Fearless was dedicated to her mother. The song is entitled “The Best Day” and reminisces about Taylor’s childhood and all of the ways that her mom was there for her in both happy times and hard times. One particular verse seems to sum up their relationship:
I know you were on my side
Even when I was wrong
And I love you for giving me your eyes
Staying back and watching me shine
Staying back and watching Taylor shine is what Andrea Swift has done so brilliantly. She reminds us that as mothers it is our responsibility to support, encourage, and believe in our daughters. Even when we may not see eye to eye, our daughters need to know that we are there for them no matter what.
As Mother’s day approaches, we would love for you to share how either you inspire your daughter or your mom has lifted you up on our Facebook page. We love hearing from you!
