Isabella Rose Taylor’s story is such an incredible reminder that anything is possible when we work hard and dream big. Nationally renowned as a big time fashion designer from Austin, Texas, Taylor is only 14 years old! If you think that’s young, you won’t believe that she has been designing clothes since she was only eight years old.
This year Isabella became the youngest designer to ever have her clothing line sold in Nordstrom department stores. Her fashion line is fresh, innovative, and lighthearted, featuring age-appropriate silhouettes, fringe, and fun floral patterns. She designs clothes for her peers, focusing on them as her inspiration. You can view Isabella’s beautiful Spring 2015 collection on her website.
As if being featured at Nordstrom isn’t cool enough, Isabella has also received other well deserved forms of recognition. She was recently included in FastCompany‘s list of Most Creative People in Business. She was in good company with others on the list including Barbara Bush (George W. Bush’s daughter) and Amy Poehler.
Taking Herself To The Next Level
Even more amazing than her accolades was being featured last year at New York Fashion Week, where she had her own runway show. Taylor is also CEO of her company, which produces her line of clothes. You might be wondering when she has time for school. She is actually already a high school graduate and is currently pursuing a fine arts degree at her local community college!
Beyond designing and running her own business, Isabella has also added speaking to her long list of talents. She has shared her story with listeners by delivering an inspiring TEDxTalk. In this talk, she explains that she focuses on telling a simple story. Taylor is a teen who designs for other teens. She shares that the simplicity of her story and vision make it easy for her to find supporters.
During her TEDxTalk, Taylor said, “Not everyone will like your work, and people will try to discourage you, but it’s so important to stay the course and understand people’s criticism, but not let it affect what you do in the end”. These are such profound words from a very well spoken young lady.
Taking Action Early In Life:
- Chances are, a 14-year-old does not accomplish that much in her lifetime without incredibly supportive parents. This story is a reminder that we should tell our daughters how much we believe in them and help encourage and equip them to pursue their dreams. Let’s not just assume they know we believe in them. Let’s tell them!
- We’ve heard the saying “It’s never too late to go after your dream.” Well, this story proves that the opposite can also be true. It’s never too early to pursue your dream. Let’s instill confidence in our daughters that they can truly accomplish great things even at a young age.
