I recently had the opportunity to speak on a panel inspired from the book The Confidence Code by Katty Kay and Claire Shipmen for the Healthcare Businesswomen Association’s Annual conference. The audience was asked to write themselves a letter (yes we are going to mail it!) and tell themselves 3 things they wanted to do to build confidence over the next 90 days.
The most popular goal was to stop listening to the negative voice in our heads that creates self-doubt. How we feel about ourselves dramatically impacts not only our own perspective but how others see us. In here song Try, Colbie Caillat highlights the importance of liking ourselves and accepting who we are.
An Excerpt from the song TRY
Put your make-up on
Get your nails done
Curl your hair
Run the extra mile
Keep it slim so they like you, do they like you?
Get your shopping on, at the mall, max your credit cards
You don’t have to choose, buy it all, so they like you
Do they like you?
Wait a second,
Why, should you care, what they think of you
When you’re all alone, by yourself, do you like you?
Do you like you?
You don’t have to try so hard
You don’t have to, give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don’t have to change a single thing
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
Take your make-up off
Let your hair down
Take a breath
Look into the mirror, at yourself
Don’t you like you?
‘Cause I like you
Does this sound familiar? Remember liking you will show others around you and most importantly your daughter that she is just right the way she is now.
3 Confidence Boosting Ideas To Try Over The Next 90 Days
1. Chase Away Self Doubt: Every time you have that feeling of self-doubt tell yourself one positive thing someone has told you lately and remember how awesome you are!
2. Develop a Power Phrase: and use it often when you feel unsure. Share it with your daughter and help her use one during school when things get tough.
3. Focus-and SAY NO. It is hard for women to say no and yet saying yes truly impacts confidence because life starts getting out of balance. Be kind to yourself and to your loved ones by being selective about your time. You are worth it!
